In June 1985, this commission, also known as the Treadway Commission after its distinguished chairman James C. Treadway, Jr., was jointly sponsored by the AICPA, American Accounting Association (AAA), the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and the Financial Executives Institute (FEI) to determine what factors contribute to fraudulent financial reporting and to develop practical, constructive recommendations for reducing the incidence of this problem.
