This exposition of the Soviet legal system has been written in such a way as to make it accessible to a wide readership including the practicing lawyer, the political scientist and anyone with a general interest in the Soviet Union. This edition has been revised and updated to incorporate the effects of the legislative reforms introduced by the Gorbachev administration. Professor Butler has also included the results of academic legal scholarship from both the West and the Soviet Union itself.
